Our Mission:
Our mission is to collect and preserve the oral and digital history of the Korean American legacy, sharing it with the public and utilizing it as a valuable academic resource. At the same time, we strive to inspire and empower young people through meaningful mentorship, providing the guidance, support, and resources they need to realize their full potential.
We strive to foster positive youth development, build resilience, and promote personal growth, while promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equity. Through our mentorship program, we aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where youth can thrive, develop valuable life skills, and become active contributors to their communities.
We are committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of young people, helping them navigate challenges, and empowering them to create a brighter future for themselves and those around them.
How our Heroes and Legends are Selected?
Our heroes are suggested by friends and community leaders and also recommended by previous honorees featured in our book. Our advisory team, made up of friends and professionals, thoroughly discusses and ensures there is no political influence in the selection process. They also evaluate the qualifications and achievements of each candidate to ensure they align with our mission and maintain fairness and avoid any political bias. We then recommend candidates to our youth team members, who engage in further discussions, with each student deciding who they wish to feature as the producer of each article.
The key aspect of our selection process is that these heroes must be ordinary individuals with extraordinary accomplishments who are committed to mentoring and guiding our youth toward their academic and career goals.
Our youth team communicates regularly, shares opinions, and collaboratively decides on the theme of our presentations. This is a year-round process involving meetings, interviews, writing, photography, editing, printing, presentations, and our annual reception and celebration. We are proud to say that this is the only event in our community where three generations come together to celebrate and share our significant Korean American history. We are proud to host the largest collection of oral and visual records of our Korean American legacy, highlighting how the new generation is preserving and archiving our voices through practical training.
In partnership with its network of other academic and historical institutions, the CARE (Collect, Archive, Research, Exhibit) PROJECT augments the standard narratives of historical research and education inspired by an award-winning documentary Fading Away. CARE Project shares its findings digitally through its website and social networks as well as physically through exhibitions, publications, and the holdings of academy institutions.
